In Compliance With the Children's Internet Protection Act

It is the policy of Connally ISD to: a) prevent user access over its computer network to, or transmission of, inappropriate material via Internet, electronic mail, or other forms of direct electronic communications; b) prevent unauthorized access to and unlawful activities on the CISD network or local resources; c) prevent unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal identification information regarding minors; and d) comply with the Children's Internet Protection Act.

Actions:
CISD requires the signed acknowledgement by both students, parents/guardians and staff of the CISD network Acceptable Use Policy. Included are policies on: the purpose of CISD Wide Area Network, network etiquette, vandalism and harassment, copyright, limitations of user privacy, network functionality limitations, security of data.

CISD requires the signed consent of a parent or guardian permitting the publishing of limited directory information on its official web site.

CISD requires all staff to monitor the students' Internet access for which they are responsible.

CISD blocks the access of inappropriate material on the Internet via a commercial content internet filter run centrally from its servers. This filter is active on all work stations in the district. In addition to other categories, it blocks visual depictions specified by CIPA: obscene, child pornography, and harmful to minors. While under direct supervision, filtering may be temporarily and selectively disabled if it interferes with the legitimate educational use of the Internet by students in certain subjects. CISD does not warrant the effectiveness of Internet filtering. No filter to date has the capability of blocking 100% of inappropriate content and it is not a substitute for the close monitoring of students by teachers and staff members.

CISD manually blocks sites that it deems are inappropriate which the content filter does not block. These blocks include email programs, news groups, chat rooms, and audio/video downloads.

CISD logs all sites which students and staff access or attempt to access.

CISD is undertaking actions to comply with the public notice and hearing requirements of CIPA.
